I know this is pretty overdue -- let's get to it! I mentioned earlier how I was working on an illustration, and I wasn't liking the way that it turned out. While working on it, I also tried to fix the perspective of the head, to get the illustration closer to how I had imagined it. This was supposed to be a menacing figure, so I wanted his head to be titled down a little more, so as to gaze up at you from underneath his thick eyebrows ufufu One thing I did was go back to basics and study facial proportions . I also found a really good video tutorial by Sycra which changed the way that I visualized the head and face. He focuses on the planes of the face, and this enables you to draw a more 3-dimensional-looking head as well as draw the head in all sorts of different angles. This is old -- posting from the future: Hi! 久しぶりよふふー It's been a while, I know, and a lot has happened! ^q^ I didn't mention this before, but I got hired to do freelance work with two different companies. It was really fun, and I was just in awe of the fact that I was getting paid to draw and animate. I could actually call myself a professional and that was pretty cool. I wrote my first contract, had to say no to a project because it conflicted with my values (which was scary, by the way), and got to make work that I was really proud of because I got my hands dirty instead of being a perfectionist and tip-toeing around. The timing was spooky because when one job ended, I got picked up by another company. But it didn't last for long. After my last project I didn't have any work lined up, and I was back to working part time while looking for work. I was experiencing so much stress that it interfered with my health, so I moved back to Houston with my family. It...

Hi! It's been a while. I've started working part-time again, so now it's been a bit harder to find the time to work on stuff. I also landed two freelance jobs -- one in June and the other in September, so I was really happy about that. I'll talk about them at some other point. So, I started working on this illustration a while back in September: It was supposed to be a warmup, where I would take a picture that I like and replicate what I like specifically about the picture (I used this Dracula poster ). But I ran into this problem: I'm not sure if you can see it, but the face is uneven. Or maybe you noticed it in the original image pff Here's a closer, side-by-side comparison.  I went through multiple iterations trying to fix it, and even once I settled on something, it lost its appeal for me. Now it just looks kind of stiff and boring. This reminds me of the speed-paints I used to watch where people would invert their image man...

It's been a while! A lot has happened, of course, but it'll take too long to talk about it all right now.  So, to keep it simple, I'm interviewing for a Multimedia Design position tomorrow, and I have an assignment due right before the interview -- something that displays my skills gives the interviewer something to review and talk about. This weekend was pretty busy as I also had to give a message the previous Sunday. I ended up pulling an all nighter last night, spending about seven hours on it. And now, as I try to open After Effects, my virus detection suddenly decides that it's too dangerous to open. Hi, sorry I totally dropped the ball, didn't I? This past semester, I decided not to take that independent study, because I thought that it would take up too much time, and boy did I make the right decision. Literally all of my classes had projects upon projects upon projects -- even the non-production classes. ahaha what It should've been fun, but honestly, it wasn't. But, that's okay, because it was a pretty good learning experience. At the end of the semester, when I had to write a reflection for one of my classes, I learned that it's good to... These take a while to put together, and to do this everyday would be pretty overwhelming, so I think I'll upload gesture drawings on a weekly basis. There's a looooot of rambling. It's pretty much a watered-down stream of consciousness of most of the stuff I've learned related to this. I think afterwards, I won't say as much. It'll probably just be small things here and there that I learn from each week. I thought I should post some gesture exercises. I try to do them every day -- 25 pictures, 30 seconds each. Eventually, I started to start with warmups which consist of drawing lines and elipses. I found out about it in an article. It's part of a series called " How to Practice Drawing ". Super good. It's been a while. This week was pretty slow -- difficult to get anything done because of, well, my laziness. Anyway, back to this project. First, let's set the mood with some music. I built this table all by myself. I went through hell and it didn't help that I smoked a couple cigarettes and didn't sleep for seven days. The cofee was too strong... The first time I heard this song, these lyrics caught my ear (is that a thing?) and I thought to myself "there's a story here". Looking at these words now, it actually looks so plain, but when I listened to the music it felt to me like this guy just hopped through different dimensions and endured more than his heart could take -- all for this dumb coffee table. But he's had so much coffee, he's wired and it did things to him. That coffee table was worth all of the horribly bizzarre things that he was dragged through.
